Looking Beyond WLS: Reverse the Post-Op Regain is a hybrid coaching program. This program gives you my key strategies for managing and reversing weight regain after WLS, refined over the last nine years.

The hybrid coaching program is a combination of:

  • Private 1:1 monthly appointments

  • Five (5) modules with over 20 short, educational and easy-to-digest video lessons. These build your bariatric knowledge and ensure you go from confused to confident.

  • Chat Access in-between appointments for ongoing support and accountability.

The combination of online modules plus the 1:1 appointments and in-between coaching via a chat app, ensures you will accelerate your results and transform your relationship with food within six months.

By the end of the program, you’ll: 

  • Understand weight regain and learn how to take charge of reversing it. 

  • Understand the building blocks of nutrition - protein, fat, carbohydrates. You will then learn how to develop a meal or eating plan that works for you and your lifestyle. 

  • Learn how to treat and manage reactive hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) after WLS. 

  • Learn strategies to maintain consistency with WLS eating behaviours, helping you to keep satisfied between meals and minimise any gastrointestinal symptoms.

Each lesson builds upon the previous one. You will learn all aspects of bariatric nutrition, including information that you may wish to have known at the start. Weight loss during or after this program cannot be promised. 

I have developed this course over the last year, pouring all the knowledge I have to help you reverse weight regain. I share all my secrets and strategies that I have devised over my seven years of consulting thousands of patients after weight loss surgery, to maximise nutrition, keep you satisfied between meals and help you create a healthier mindset so you never have to ‘diet’ again. Bariatric Surgery Basics
  • In this lesson we cover the basics of how weight loss surgery works and why more surgery is not necessarily a solution to reversing weight regain. 

Simple and Easy Tips
  • Let's refresh those eating behaviours that we all know we should be doing and why we should be.

Goal Setting
  • In this module we go through goal setting. It is important to do, please don't skip ahead. If you don't know what you want then how will we work out how to get there? Think of a goal or plan as a destination on google maps. There's lots of different ways to go, but if you have a plan, you'll get there much faster.

Module 2 - So, what am I meant to be eating? 

Protein
  • Protein is still the most important nutrient after weight loss surgery. We cover: 
    • What is protein?
    • Why is it important and its role after WLS
    • The role of protein in weight management.

Carbohydrates - Can I eat carbohydrates after Weight Loss Surgery?
  • Spoiler alert - You can eat carbohydrates after weight loss surgery.

    • How do carbohydrates fit in to your diet after WLS
    • What are 'Smart Carbs'? 
    • What is the Glycaemic Index (GI)?

  • In this lesson, I teach you about fat in a dietary sense, after weight loss surgery. You'll learn:

Bowel Issues after Weight Loss Surgery
  • This module will help you manage your bowels and create a healthy gut after weight loss surgery. We discuss how to manage constipation, diarrhoea and how to improve your gut health after weight loss surgery.

Module 3 - Real Life Nutrition

Eating Behaviours after Weight Loss Surgery
  • In this module, we discuss the key eating behaviours after weight loss surgery. We also learn how to manage hunger and fullness after weight loss surgery. This lesson will help you trust your body by learning your own unique hunger and fullness cues.

Portion Sizes after Weight Loss Surgery
  • In this lesson we go through what is a normal portion for a variety of common foods after weight loss surgery. I also show you the progression of how portion sizes increase over the first year.

Fluids 
  • In this lesson we go through the role of fluids and why it is important to stay hydrated. I give my best tips on managing the taste of water and strategies to increase fluid intake. 

Alcohol after Weight Loss Surgery
  • In this lesson we discuss how alcohol can fit into your lifestyle after weight loss surgery. I also give you some lower kilojoule alternatives that can help you feel included but won't cause dumping syndrome from excessive sugar. 

Module 4 - Putting it all into practice

Successful meal planning after Weight Loss Surgery
  • This is a very practical lesson and one that I hope you take with you lifelong to help you continue your confidence around food. I will teach you how to make a meal plan to make it work for you. No more meal plans that you forget about and don't stick to. This one helps with keeping to the grocery budget and the household schedule.
  • This module also has a meal planning workbook to assist in completing this activity. You can reprint the pages week after week. 

Label reading
  • In this lesson I uncover my best tips on how to effectively and confidently read labels. This will help reduce confusion and ensure you're feeling empowered to make better food choices daily.

  • In this lesson we go through some helpful products that you might find useful to support your weight loss surgery journey. Think of these as your tools to keep you motivated and on track.

So Who am I?

My name is Suraya Nikwan. I’m an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist that has worked with people like you over the last nine years. Prior to this, I undertook a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics and Bachelor of Biomedical Science. 

Born and bred in Brisbane, I have an established private practice within Greenslopes. I have been frustrated by the number of people that I have seen that don’t know what or how to eat years after their weight loss surgery. I set out to develop this program to help you feel more confident with food, while also providing more support to you between appointments. 

Aside from working with my clients 1-1 in clinic or online; I am a busy Mum of two children under three and an aspiring horticulturist.

How much time is this going to add to my schedule?

Overall each video are less than 20 minutes in duration. I try to keep all my information easy to digest. 

If you watched one video a day, you would be complete in just under one month. This will help you access the nutrition knowledge quickly.

Consultations with Suraya are between 45-60 minutes once a month for the duration of the program.

Is this going to work for me?

Due to the individual nature of your metabolism, I cannot guarantee weight loss or reversing your entire regain. You will learn and if you implement the strategies, you should notice more satisfaction between meals, more confidence with picking food, less obsession about food and more awareness of your nutrition.
